Cocktails for Two
You might recognise this from the adverts
The song seems to refer to the ending of Prohibition in the United States. Mentioned discreetly in the song's introduction is that people could be "carefree and gay once again". The song was written in 1934, and the 21st Amendment, which ended Prohibition, was ratified a year earlier in 1933.
From mid-2006 Spike Jones's version featured in a UK advertising campaign for Schweppes.
According to recording industry insiders, one of the song's composers, Sam Coslow, hated Jones' irreverent treatment, but even so, the recording's success earned him large royalties.
Stan Freberg used the introduction of the song in an episode of his 1957 radio show, without the main portion of the song. Stan asks Billy May, the orchestra leader, why he stopped after the introduction, However, May said that it was all that he was allowed to perform, due to licensing restrictions.

Popcorn
A one hit wonder (I wonder why?!) from 1972 which reached No5 in the UK Charts.
It still evokes memories of the early '70s for me...
This Is Love
Sweet dreams everyone!
Down By The Water
Hey Ya!
I think this is one of the best videos I've seen in a long while!
Work It
I do like a bit of Missy every now and then.
Don't Fence Me In
Mindfields
Yeah, like this is going to send me to sleep! Tch! ![]()
A very well executed combination of sound and visuals.
Mindfields was the first thing my iPod threw at me this morning when I pressed "Shuffle"
I love my iPod.
WOOSHah!
Rock and Roll
Had a bit of a bad day. I'll explain in my main blog in a bit, but one thing happened as I left work. I got in the car, started it up and turned the radio on just as this started playing:
Cheered me up no end! Volume got whacked right up almost as far as it could go!
Walking...
Well, it's been snowy today and my thoughts spring (When's that going to start) to this little ditty...
YYZ
Yeah, I know. I've posted this one before on my main blog, but I feel it needs to be given another airing here.
He still makes me sick. Why can't I do that?
Unwanted
I'd not heard of this band before today, and this is only the second of their songs that I've heard. I like them already.
Post Modern Sleaze
This band's music was introduced to me by a delightful young barmaid down my local about twelve years ago. I wonder what she's doing now...
Hot Corner
I'm going to delete all of the Ferret's friends and retire him to his run. He may dig his way out occasionally, but I think I've trained him well enough now. This blog will remain open for me to showcase my favourite choons.
I think it's for the best.
In the mean time, enjoy :-
Phantom Mountain
I've included this one simply because the video is by one of my favourite cartoonists - Doug Savage. The songs not bad either ![]()
